SAEDA FIELD TRIPS & STUDY TOURS

SAEDA organizes field trips & study tours in order to offer farmers the rare opportunity to meet and exchange lessons & skills with other farmers in different regions of Lao PDR and neighboring countries.

SAEDA organizes both short term and extended field visits.

Field trips are usually organized in conjunction with a training workshop ensuring that participants can witness and experience first hand the application & implementation of SAEDA methodologies.  They are usually limited to 1 day trips.

Study tours usually last 5-7 days.  The study tour is organized at the national and/or regional level.  Participants travel to other provinces in Lao PDR, and/or a neighboring country, spending about a week exchanging skills, knowledge & lessons, between themselves & their ASEAN counterparts, expanding the SAEDA network and outreach, both nationally and internationally.

NEEDS SURVEY, PROJECT MONITORING & EVALUATION

SAEDA follows and implements the highest in quality assurance and operational standards.  SAEDA employs gender inclusive community participatory approaches at all stages of project planning, implementing & evaluating.  SAEDA monitors each of its' projects from start to finish and beyond.  In addition to it's own on site in field monitoring activities, SAEDA employs independent consultants to survey projects & participants upon completion of the project.  The evaluation reports are then reported and presented to SAEDA, it's stakeholders, project donors, Board of Directors and project participants in an open forum.

Rectangular Callout: A SAEDA trained farmer in Khoun District
Xieng Khouang Province said:

"Even I was poor but I decided to purchase chemical fertilizer to use on my paddy plot, but it was found that the yield was not increased much, and I observed that the soil became harder, salinity, and deterioration of quality. Fish raised on my farm was not grown well and number was also decreased as it might escape to the nearby stream. After I was trained on OA processing techniques, I tried it on my farm, and I observed that the yield has been increased year by year, and the yield is 4.2 ton/ha on the same plot. The fish numbers are increased, and some of fish species are from natural sources which I did not free it on the farm. Now I am quit from the list of poor household, and I can save some money from selling rice of 1-2 tons/year and I could also invest in cattle and buffalo, so I do not need to pay for dung in order to produce CH.
